The original is Watercolour in my Moleskine 200gsm Nature Journal – 8″ × 5″
.

  1. “Be as a bird perched on a frail branch that she feels bending beneath her, still she sings away all the same, knowing she has wings.”

I was visiting a friend a while ago to see how it’s going with the Red Bishop she took over from me – he somehow lost a WHOLE wing as a fledgling in my garden – and I saw this little unknown bird (to me) in her aviary and enquired what it was. Turned out it’s a Common Red-poll {Corduelis flammea} from the US, which she had bought at a pet shop. If I had my way, all pet shops would be banned from selling anything besides cats and dogs, and even that is a stretch for me.
.

  1. I dream of a day when everybody would rather see birds free and in their natural habitat than wanting to capture their beauty in a cage….

So very beautiful – the style here reminds me of traditional Chinese painting and I can almost see the breeze fluttering though his tiny feathers

  • Thank you Julie-Ann – he was quite content to just roost on the branch and allow me to finish the sketch.
