The 2,000 Mile Trip ! by MardiGCalero
Clear

the trip took about seven weeks . With Mum and Dad we were eight people. We lived in this little van and a tent. with all our belongings, We sold the van at the Daiintree, N. QLD. we took a boat up near Cooktown, and walked in to dense rainforest jungle. vertually uninhabited.. Stayed in a tin shed until we found a location, and all of us worked together to build a house that never got finished, A high pole home. with floor , roof and one wall.. and lived off the land, with the land., for nearlly three years…Our baby sister was born while we were there… And those years were the best years of my life.. It was then known as Baileys creek. !!!

Your mom was an amazing woman to do all that she did for so many with so little. She is the kind of person we need alot more of today. She and my mom would have gotten along famously!

  • Oh Viv, Thank you so much, so sorry, you know I did answer this lovely comment from you. But sometimes I forget to send, I mentioned that my mum still is an amazing woman, as brilliant, bright and witty as ever, as she is about to turn 98 on 19th of june, And I’m sure she would have gotten on famously with your mom. We’re having a big party on the 15th, for her birthday, at the huge Eatery, built by my brother for functions.. You’re welcome to attend.x

Just love you sharing this with us,….Sounds like you had a Great life,…..But,…The most important part is you know you had a great life,…..
    Awesome story for sure,…

  • Thanks John, I so appreciate your thoughts, .. Yes We had a hard life, but we all worked together, It made me appreciate what teamwork, being responsible, and being recognised as a very important link in the chain, meant. it was always fun. Lots ot adventure, mountaineering, rock climbing. and learning how to navigate and track through untracked jungle, and many other life skills. I/m so glad you liked my story…Cheers.

My brother’s only 1 kim down the road. And both my daughters are about an hours drive from my place. Where is home ? x
