From a cacao tree in the inner courtyard of a tiny museum in Copán Ruinas, Honduras. I have been to visit the tree three times now and never have enough time to pay it the respect it is due. The tree is a work of art and the hands that held aside the leaves so I could see the pods were another form of chocolate. Foreigners aren’t supposed to beg their way into hidden spaces and stand around gaping at trees. I didn’t care. And I’ll do it again if I can when I return to this incredible country – so volcanic and poor.
