Stunt pilot Jim LeRoy passed away after crashing at a Dayton Ohio Airshow on Saturday, July 28, 2007. He was 46. This shot was taken at the Australian International Airshow at Avalon, Victoria in March that same year.
Anyone who saw him fly in his S2S Bulldog stunt plane would know what an amazing pilot he was. Anyone who met him would also attest to what a warm, genuine guy he was; always there to sign autographs after a show, for as long as the queues were there. Having first met him a few days before this shot at the Airshow Opening Night event, we shared a joke he first brought up during his speech there, about how American pilots couldn’t really be blamed for believing “Vegemite” to be a fuel additive.
I feel very privileged to have seen him fly, extremely lucky to have met him and blessed to have such a great keepsake of a very talented but humble and sincere human being.
Having lost a brother to an air crash 20 years ago, I can understand the loss his family has experienced.
Happy landings Jim.
