Red Sandstone Cliffs are a feature of the western Algarve coastlines constant battle with erosion. The natural sandstone is very soft and erodes quickly but sometimes the underlying rock at sealevel is harder and slows the erosion process resulting in the many stacks you see along this stretch of coastline.
