Who knows what’s going to happen when you have statues as air traffic controllers ? Did they ever find Zurich airport?
Taken in Zurich at the tri-annual festival which encompasses the whole of Zürich city. Food stalls, street entertainment and a huge amount of rides ensure that everyone has a good time. Two nights of fireworks over the lake set to music – one evening to classical music and one to popular music. Acrobatic air shows etc…etc. They say it is the biggest festival in Europe.
Instead of just standing on the lake shores where I would have only had sky as a background and people and water in the foreground, I decided to move one street back in order to capture a part of the opera house (Yes you Sydney folk, we have an opera house too ;-) The Zürich Opera House was the first Opera House in all of Europe that had electric lighting. The neo-baroque theatre building in front of the Sechseläuten green space on the shore of Lake Zürich was built in 1891 upon 1,800 oak piles. The first opera performed there was Richard Wagner’s ‘Lohengrin’.
