This Grey Heron (Ardea cinerea) was hunting in a hidden corner just below the Rhine Falls on the river Rhine near the town of Schaffhausen in northern Switzerland. These are the largest and oldest water falls in Europe. It took a lot of patience to catch him, catching this little perch (Perca fluviatilis). This is only about twenty minutes from where I live so I will return again soon and try to get a little closer without disturbing his comfort zone.

Same bird leaving the scene of the crime and flying over the Rhine on a full stomach.

Great information, great shot, I was there last year, beautiful place. I can imagine the wait, but it was worth it! Good Job Mamba.Cheers:)

  • Thanks again Dania. Neuhausen will be celebrating there 1.100 th. birthday on the 21. August 2010 with a big firework display over the falls. Might be worth a visit with the camera.

    very cool shot!

  • Many thanks again Edyta. I needed a lot of patience for this shot but it was nice just sitting there next to the falls.
