desert gladiators by mamba

Ancient dead trees (probably acacia and probably only one tree that has split under the strain of time and heat) wrestling at Sossusvlei within the Namib-Naukluft National Park. This is in the Namib desert of Namibia.
The remaining skeletons of trees here, which are believed to be about 900 years old, are now darkened because the intense sun has scorched them. The wood does not decompose because it is so dry.

Heat of the sun and hoopla from the crowd spurred the pair on in their quest to win over the other, they fought for so long they became as statues, and for all but a memory in the dessert of time.
  • I couldn’t have described it better! Thanks very much Linda.
