Taken inside a house in the ghost town of Kolmanskop in the Namib desert, southern Namibia.
It used to be a small diamond mining village until abandoned in 1956.
Many of the buildings here have been taken over by the desert sands.

Wonderful colours in this photo. I love it. It tells such a wonderful story.

think you might need a bobcat (tractor) rather than a vacuum cleaner for this size job. ;-)
  • Hi again Bryan. If you can get the tractor through that door, I’ll do the rest ;)

Like sands through the hour glass

  • Your right Cliff but instead of an hour, it’s taken over 50 years.

    Stunning colours, great capture.

  • Thanks Gary, it was a fantastic place to visit and great for photos. You need a permit (easy to get) because they are worried that people run off with diamonds which can be found on the surface of the desert.

I’ve never seen something like this—an abandoned, dilapidated house is pretty neat, but this place full of sand is just amazing. Your image is framed so well and takes me right into the house. Terrific job!!

  • Thank you Kevin. It’s a great place to be with a camera.
