On The Prowl

This painting was quite a lot of trouble. The first night I started working on it I had completely finished with the panther before I realized that the jaw was terribly out of line. I re-painted it, and that’s where everything started to go wrong. I made multiple changes to the composition, as well as to the lighting and detail on the panther itself. I’ve never had a painting present so many problems. (Granted, that’s not saying too much, I haven’t done many actual paintings until lately.) I’ve declared it finished at least twice before now. I finally feel satisfied with it, however. The final touches today were the flowers in the lower corner and the beetles on the leaves at the top. I kind of felt like calling this ‘Variations on the Color Yellow’ but that was wierd, so I went with something a little more cliche. :D

Heehee, it did! I’ve been trying to teach myself to paint properly. I would like to do another panther soon and try some things differently… if I ever get the time. XD Thank you very much!

A lovely beast! His fur reminds me of those scratch-away drawings you do with the foil underneath. Dammit, I can’t remember what they’re called…

  • MaKayla Songer replied

Thanks! I think you mean scratchboard. Yeah, I’d like to try doing another panther and see if I could render the fur better, but it might be awhile before I get the time.

Wow! The eyes have it! Tremendous piece of art, Lashana. Love the hint of yellow in the fur, the eyes and on the nose reflecting the flowers. GRRRRREAT JOB!

  • MaKayla Songer replied

Thank you very much, Ginger! The eyes are my favorite part of a drawing. :)

Like your style a hell of a lot MaKayla, and this is probably my favourite. It is realistic and yet stylistic too. Very unique. And on a slightly more personal note, that photo of you is stunning, you look absolutely beautiful and charming :)

I think your patience and perseverance were worth it. Fantastic painting. THe grass blades hiding the panther and obscuring our view are just great. Well done.

This is lovely. Sometimes the ones that trouble us the most turn out to be the best teachers:)
