Rainy street, B&W
Judith suggested Rainy street could be in B&W. She has great B&W work and has been an inspiration to me. So I tried with PS to convert the photo into B&W. But I’m new to PS and don’t know if I did it right. Please let me know what you think about the tones, contrast, textures… will a more grainy feel help? Thank you.
Rainy street, B&W belongs to the following groups:
Black and White Photography, Cards - Best of the Best, Everyday Life, In The Shadows, Kairos - Capturing the Decisive Moment, Silhouettes , Street Photography and Photojournalism and The Urban EnvironmentAvailable for sale as Cards, Matted Prints, Laminated Prints, Mounted Prints and Framed Prints

It has a classic look about it
Arnold Isbister, 3 months ago
this is perfect; there is a hardness from detail that make the contrast and reflections real and give a ‘feeling’ of wetness on something hard, concrete.

you done well maka, this has turned into a very moody picture, and very classy

Looks good Zhao.
I would have liked to see it as a SC, with just the colour of the red light reflection.

I know what you mean, Richard. Red among gray tones would be stunning. I’ll learn how to select colours. Thank you!

This is beautiful. There is a magical silence in this image. As if it comes to me from another moment in time, like a dream or flashback. Love how the girl changed into a silhouette.

Great setting – makes for ‘In the Moment’ Portraiture. Candid. Brilliant, perfect.

With regards to the treatment in Photoshop – perfect. Try a grain effect and see what you think. My experience is too just experiment with Photoshop and see what you like and always ask for constructive feedback. Layers are very useful to get different lighting effects, textures and all sorts of cool effects. Check out my folio and you’ll see what I mean.

I like the “glossy” look of this, Maka. The choice of umbrella and hand bag with contrasty dots is a real plus. Nice fluid motion to her walk and you caught her in perfect stride.
If you like, I can tell you how to convert to BW using LAB mode in PS, although you seemed to have nailed it in this image. Nice job!

good shot.
however, i think that the contrast / shadows are just a litte bit too dark. also, if you want to go that extra step, you could try to fix the slight horizon tilt in PS. i’m not sure what version of PS you have but in the latest one, the BW adjustment layer has quite a few options which can be tweaked to your liking. these are just my thoughts anyway.
also, the shot does work a lot better in B&W.
cheers

I’m not sure that Jeremy’s comment applies to the whole image, but perhaps the your subject could have slightly more detail brought out. I love the composition.
