House Of Hope: An Eating Disorder Photography Exhibition & Fundraiser by Sarah ORourke

Posted on August 22, 2011

As some of you know, Body Image and Eating Disorder awareness are topics I’m hugely passionate about. And furthermore, believe that ‘Art’ can play a vital role in healing and giving voice to the unspoken.

Which is why I am thrilled to share a little about an AMAZING exhibition taking place in Melbourne in September. Through her beautiful photography, artist Emma McEvoy tells her story of recovery from an Eating Disorder, hoping to give insight to what are still such poorly understood illnesses, and to give hope to those battling them. The exhibition will be held in a little period house and is described by Em as being ‘multi-sensory’. You’ll have to attend to find out exactly what that means. ;) You can read a more detailed description and get a sneak peek and some of the images here on my blog. As well as all the details, including time, date and RSVP.

I think this will exhibition will be an incredible experience and for such an important cause, with all funds going to The Butterfly Foundation, I hope that any of you in and around Melbourne will give thought to attending, &/or share with others who may have an interest. Personally I think that these are issues that affect us all in one way or another, and the greater understanding there is across the whole community, the greater chance we have of treating and preventing these debilitating disorders.

  • Sarah ORourke:

I think it will be amazing, Karin! I’m only disappointed I can’t be there… but I will be there in spirit. And if Em posts the images online once the exhibition has been held, I’ll post here or on my blog so all can see. :)

It’s an incredibly important topic and one very close to my heart. It’s also a topic that many people struggle to comprehend, and that is where art can be such a powerful medium – conveying what words cannot.

Thanks so much for the support, I’ll pass it on to Em!

Such an important contribution you are making.

  • Sarah ORourke:

Oh, thanks Bec, but I really cannot take any credit here – that all goes to the amazing and talented Emma McEvoy! I’m just happy to support and promote, having been in her position both from the perspective of having had an ED, and having held a fundraiser/awareness exhibition.
