It was all a daft idea from the start,
but Trixie had captured Montague’s heart,
and how could a mongrel expect to canoodle
with a gorgeous pedigree, silver-grey poodle?
Montague’s thoughts were drifting away
to a time that could be their own wedding day …
Monty was feeling a little dog rough,
and Trixie the bride, was still in the huff,
for the evening before, he’d drank way too much,
with King Charles the spaniel, and a boxer called Butch
They travelled to church in a Rover, of course,
and after, ate cauli in a cheddar cheese sauce.
Trixie had thought this was cannibalistic,
so she settled instead, for a Winalot biscuit.
The party was held at The Black Labrador,
where they held ‘Yappy Hour’ from two until four,
and this was the start of their marital troubles,
for Monty had taken a liking for doubles.
Trixie made eyes at a bulldog called Brandy,
who Monty accused of spilling his shandy.
She said he was barking up the wrong tree,
but the newly-wed couple just couldn’t agree.
Fighting broke out, and snaps were taken,
as something made Marty rudely awaken.
Who was that interrupting his dream?
He rubbed at his eyes, as he took in the scene.
Trixie was smiling, and licking his paw.
Wasn’t this all that he wanted, and more?
But he got up and ran, as fast as he’d go,
so I guess that the answer to that one was “NO!”
