The Metal Utensil
The hospital ward was busy that day,
when Patrick checked in, for a very short stay.
He was handed some sheets, to make up his bed,
by an over-worked nurse, “Short-staffing”, she said.
So Patrick got ready, disgruntled and hurt,
and buttoned his ‘Wee Willie Winkie’ nightshirt,
as the staff nurse returned, with bed pan in hand :
“You’re lucky to get this….they’re much in demand..”
But Patrick looked puzzled, “And what, pray, is that?”
“It’s a bed pan!” she answered, smiling to Pat.
“Oh, dear God in heaven…Do you mean to tell..
..that we have to do our own cooking as well?”
