Absolutely Fabulous is a BBC comedy series written by Jennifer Saunders (who plays Edina) .
Patsy Stone is Edina’s best friend. She works for a British fashion magazine in the newly elevated position of Managing Editor. Patsy, who makes no secret of the fact that her CV got to the top of the pile after she slept with the publisher, now even has less work to do than before. She lives on champagne, cigarettes and a variety of banned substances and is usually responsible for convincing Edina that a bad idea is a good idea.
Joanna Lumley spent 3 years as a photographic model, when in 1969 she took on a few acting roles, one of which was as a Bond girl in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. She went on to have a brief but memorable role in Coronation Street, in which her character turned down Ken Barlow’s offer of marriage.
Lumley’s first major role was as Purdey in The New Avengers, a revival of the secret agent series The Avengers. Roles followed in Sapphire & Steel, with David McCallum, and over a decade later came her portrayal of the louche, solipsistic and frequently drunken fashion director Patsy Stone, companion to Jennifer Saunders’ Edina Monsoon in the BBC comedy television series Absolutely Fabulous (1992–1996) and (2001–2004).
As an activist, Lumley is best known for her support for Gurkhas, the exiled Tibetan people and government, the Kondha indigenous people of India, and the Prospect Burma charity, which offers grants to Burmese students, for whom she broadcast a BBC Radio 4 charity appeal in 2001. She has since campaigned relentlessly for the Gurkha veterans who served in the British Army before 1997 to own the right to settle in Britain.
Following a Commons Home Affairs Committee meeting in which talks were held between campaigners, the Ministry of Defence and the Home Office on 19 May, Gordon Brown announced to the House of Commons on 20 May that the Home Secretary Jacqui Smith would make a statement on the issue the following day. Ms Smith subsequently announced that all Gurkha veterans who had served four years or more in the British Army before 1997 would be allowed to settle in Britain.
As a result of her campaigning skills, there were calls for Joanna Lumley to stand as a Member of Parliament at the forthcoming general election. However, she has dismissed the suggestion.[

Fantastic work Margaret from the spot on facial features to the smoking cigarette, and who said they had trouble drawing hands as you have captured hers brilliantly. Yep, I would definitely consider this your best portrait yet and look forward to seeing more of the same in 2012.
Oh my, what a glowing comment to end / begin the year. I rushed this a bit, and forgot to colour her watch. But that’s just between you and me. Thank you so much Gary.
