Sir Norman Joseph Wisdom, OBE (4 February 1915 – 4 October 2010) was an English comedian, singer-songwriter and actor best known for a series of comedy films produced between 1953 and 1966 featuring his hapless onscreen character Norman Pitkin. These films initially made more money than the James Bond film series, and secured Wisdom a celebrity status in lands as far apart as South America, Iran and many Eastern Bloc countries.

He worked in TV right up until the end in “Last of the summer wines” Excellent portrait Margaret.
    Cheers Neil

  • Some people forget that he was a serious actor too. I remember he had me in tears with a character he played on Casualty a few years ago. Thanks Neil.

This is incredible! I wish I could do this kind of work in coloured pencil.

  • Thanks Dianne. I hope the weather improves for you soon. It must be so frustrating not being able to go where you’d like. Happy New Year to you.

Nice work Margaret: I remember his films when I was younger, very much younger, especially the Norman Pitkin series with my favourite being the one where he was a milkman.

  • ‘The Early Bird’ was Norman’s first colour film in which he plays a milkman who is trying to protect Grimsdale’s dairy against the advances of bigger businesses. His small stature makes the stand off against his bigger rival all the funnier. Thanks Gary.
