My niece Kate, who lives next door,
watched in amazement, with open jaw
as I carefully applied my skin foundation
with a touch of blusher, to cause sensation;
added some shadow around the eyes
(in smokey brown, to tantalize);
brushed my lashes with ‘Shape ’n’ Curl’
(what an effect to make on a girl!);
then coloured my lips with shocking pink,
to make those guys sit up and think.
“What are you doing, Auntie Jean?”
said Kate, as I finished the whole routine.
“This make-up,” I said, “improves my looks…
…It says so in all the beauty books.”
“Then how long do we have to wait…
….before it starts to work?” said Kate.
