CAPTURED LOCATION; Groenland Safari’s, Tolwe, Limpopo Province, South Africa

These are mostly robust, hairy spiders which usually live in burrows or silk-lined retreats (some construct trapdoor lids to their retreats). In Southern Africa most burrow in the ground, with the exception of the tree trapdoor spiders and sheet-web mygalomorphsk which live above the ground, and the micromygalormorphs (family Microstigmatidae), which are found in the undergrowth of humid forests.
Not known to be harmful to man. Bites are painful due to the size and depth of punctures from the huge fangs, up to 10mm. In most cases the venom are mild. The effects of bites from the lesser baboon spider, Harpactirella lightfooti, may be more severe.

Congrats on your feature of this well captured spider!
It’s always a bit difficult to tell, but in some ways this looks similar to our Wolf Spider and it seems to be a similar size (leg span) to our Huntsman.
Wow, glad I am far away I am petrified of spiders Trish, this one gave me the creeps! I did the capture and left with speed!
