Captured Hoedspruit, SOUTH AFRICA
On a recent visit to Kapama Nature Reserve I went on a night drive and got caught up in a “Lion Hunt”. We followed the male and two female lions, off road, through the bush on a open vehicle, normally used for nightdrives. Needless to say that I could hear my heart pumping in my ears! This was my first capture, to be, at night, in the middle of the bush and I really was very nervous as well. The male lion was not even 10 feet away when I got the shot and it was so quick, there was no time for settings, just put it on slow-capture, when the male appeared in the vehicles lights I just clicked!
The females were quiet close, on my side of the vehicle, when I got a shot in on them. I honestly did not think that I would get good captures as it happened so quick and there was no second chance as they went into dense bush that we could go in with the landrover. We searched for another two hours and eventually gave up and went back to the lodge.
I will never ever forget the feeling of excitement and adrenaline pumping, just the thought of capturing a “kill” was overwelming, a oppertunity once in a lifetime !
