waiting in silence (poem)

sitting in the basement
is the elephant
I keep for remembering
that I am still here
inspite of everything
and that there is
something else to think of
but only on days
when the sky is blue
and the sun shines

because then the razor blades
are not so clickety sharp
and each single drop of blood
can be sipped in delicate gasps
a bite at a time

until enough is enough
and the elephant
has to be put to rest again
till the next sunny day

but of course
it’s always there
looming with its
larger than life shadow
behind the curtains
or the door
or just in a corner
of my mind
sitting there

too big to be put away for good
too large to be forgot about
too heavy to float away

so I care for it
on days with no clouds
when the blood tastes sweet
and the sun dries my tears.

Came to me this morning. Parts of it have been simmering for a few days, a bit like in the poem. The sun shines today.

I am a very creative person and it’s my way of dealing with the world, inside and out. I am only happy when I am making things or painting or writing. There are just not enough hours in the day…. I am into poetry and photo manipulation at the moment and also dabbling in photography. :-)
