the long road home (poem)

I lost my way
amongst the stars
infatuated by a
gleaming blue light
that shone
ever so bright
twinkling and teasing
until I succumbed
just to find out
how cold it was
burning like ice
freezing my heart
in a gleeful way

I fell from the sky
into the dark
loosing all sense
of direction
feeling nothing
just empty
looking up into
the night sky

wondering

what might have been
if I’d just soared untethered
what could have been
if I’d just flown on forever
what should have been
if I’d found the right star

instead
I crawl
on the long road home
to start again
at the beginning.

Home is a strange thing. It’s made up of lots of little things and we never know what they are until we lose them.
