Black & White

I saw myself
lying as if asleep in a
coffin made from glass
eyes closed and
breast ever so still
just like Snow White
before the prince

everything was
black & white
so stark so harsh
like truth on a dark day
not the hint of a tint
which seemed wrong
and had to be made right

I painted the sky
cerulean & azure blue,
the grass emerald green
the cheeks soft rose
skin of ivory
hair of ebony
lips of bloody red

my doppelgänger’s
eyes never opened
to be coloured
the green and brown
of the wood
no breath came into
her lungs

a tear rolled down
my cheek and
washed away all colour
gone and gone!
back to the
chiaroscuro of
the beginning

despair got hold
of me and grabbed me
when the effigy’s eyes
suddenly opened
and looked right at me
full of peace
and wonder

we kissed gently
we smiled
we touched each
other’s downy cheek
and we parted
until we meet again
one day.

Artist's Description

Woke up with this in my head…. but it took me some time to get it right so it feels like it did in my head. LOL It’s about acceptance – for me. A difficult mantra – I can intellectually accept something, but my heart often cannot.
