dreamer and the dream

you’re a figment
of my imagination

you’re not real

just something seen
from the corner of my eye

something

happening in the
universe next door

that’s what I tell myself

each and every day

but

when I look away
there you are

a rain drop glittering in the sky
becomes the blue of your eye

the hint of summer in the air
feels like your soft embrace

the warmth of the sun
turns into a kiss
gentle on my lips

but

none of it is real

I am here
and you,
you don’t exist

still

you reel me in
on a silver thread

you wrap me oh-so tight
in shiny satin ribbons

and never let me go

yet

there’s no way we’ll ever meet
anywhere

but

right here
in these lines.

Sometimes dreams can sustain us and sometimes they just confuse us making it hard to see what’s real and what isn’t, especially if the dream is what we want and real life isn’t. Isn’t that what literature is all about? Sharing someone else’s dreams?

I am a very creative person and it’s my way of dealing with the world, inside and out. I am only happy when I am making things or painting or writing. There are just not enough hours in the day…. I am into poetry and photo manipulation at the moment and also dabbling in photography. :-)

An interesting thought. I like to think our dreams are unique to us. A certain conditioning of society may affect some of our dreams and when it is what we want as you suggest isn’t that our own preferences kicking in? In this write it is unique to who you are and what a wonderfully insightful mind you have.

  • Thank you so much Donna. :-) I agree, our dreams are probably unique, but I also think that there are common threads and desires within all our dreams. :-) Hope you had a good Christmas. xo
