Hollow

Just a shell
crackling
bursting
in the cold

the wind
howling
through
the gaps

glistening rivers
running
down
the curves

ghosts wailing
songs about
yearning
for the light

moss growing
where once
a living heart
drummed its tattoo

ribs like
bare branches
swinging in the
arctic breeze
rattling
shaking
glistening
with frost

waiting for a
spring
too far away
too long in coming
too little too late
tendrils and roots
dying
one by one

Hollow sounds
unheard
unnoticed
forgotten
disregarded
lost from memory
in the silence
of the woods.
