How Do You Measure Love

How do you measure love
The length and breadth of it
       The depth of it
              by the spoonful,
by the tears in the ocean,
by the scars on my face?

How do you weigh my heart
The width and height of it
       The depth of it
              by the promises made,
              by the blood flowing,
              by its ruby colour?

How do you know my soul
       The volume and the weight
       The depth of it
              by the sacrifices made,
              by the dragons slayed,
by the songs in your honour?

How do you measure
              a gift freely given,
              a treasure all yours,
              a miracle just for you?

Why would you want to?

Just wondering…

Slight edit as I’d posted an earlier copy with the same line in twice….

I am a very creative person and it’s my way of dealing with the world, inside and out. I am only happy when I am making things or painting or writing. There are just not enough hours in the day…. I am into poetry and photo manipulation at the moment and also dabbling in photography. :-)

No idea….but it seems to be done when they advertise diamond jewelery ;o)

Beautifully crafted poetry, the format and the intent is wonderful.
I am loving your prose offerings Sybille…keep them coming.. xxx

  • Thank you KarenSue. :-)

I wish it was just diamond jewellery… however this measuring the unmeasurable seems to be everywhere. For some reason proof seems always required… xoxo

Nice…. You can’t measure it….when it’s gone…so is our joy…when it is there we have compassion too!

  • Exactly, however there always seems to be proof required and whatever proof you offer it never seems to be enough… xo
