Words Strung Together

I swallow the tears
I hold my tongue
I bite my lip and
I keep it all inside.

Until it’s a tightly wound spring

A ball of string
Spun into
       syllables and words
A singsong of
       grief and pain
A melody of
       hurts and anguish

Until it all makes sense – maybe

A ball of yarn
Woven into
       syllables and words
A tapestry of
       me and you
A picture of
       sometimes and never

Gobbledegook and balderdash
Just words and words
Spilling out of me

Drowning
White paper in black ink

But

Still

I swallow the tears
I hold my tongue
I bite my lip and
I keep it all inside.
