Deep Roots

Prickly poison thoughts
Sting tender heart flesh
Deep at night,
When darkness is
Tearing down the armoury of reason
Morning light reveals
Salty reminders
Drying on soft cheeks
Leaving shiny trails of sorrow.

Shying away from
Dissecting the viscous
Plant life clinging
To the helpless mind
During day light hours
Wrapping them up
In time worn bandages of
Tasks and instructions
And everyday necessities.

Walking through the
Dust-dry desert of
In the shadow of
A drowned past
Pin pricks of yesterday
Stinging bare skin
Like tiny drops of acid
Falling from the sky.

Writing each thought
Into the sand
Words dripping from
Sore unkissed lips
To be whipped away
In a storm of feelings
Hidden from sight
But boiling underneath
Unseen by the naked eye.

Draining some of
The pain and unreason
Seeping through from the dark
By scratching syllables into the air
Preventing prickly poison thoughts
From taking root and flourishing
Fighting an unceasing battle
Ending in more drip-drop words
Washed away by the rain.

Art to go with it:

I am a very creative person and it’s my way of dealing with the world, inside and out. I am only happy when I am making things or painting or writing. There are just not enough hours in the day…. I am into poetry and photo manipulation at the moment and also dabbling in photography. :-)

Those prickly poison thoughts can have such deep seeded roots, really felt this on a profoundly meaningful level. Get tired of uttering drip drop words some days..Really loved this so beautifully written and stirring alot of emotion!!!

  • Thank you so much. I know what you mean about getting tried of the drip drop. Doesn’t seem to make a huge difference some days… xo
