This is the way

This is the way love dies -

shredded to bits
in painful arguments

torn to pieces
in pointless discussions

warped beyond recognition
in accusations and blame

faded and colourless
with each memory twisted

dreams turned into nightmares,
hopes dashed to oblivion

tenderness morphed into aggression
sweetness transformed into a bitter stew.

This is the way love dies -

torn from my trembling hands
stomped on and squashed
trampled and ripped
consigned to the never-was and never-will-be-again.

This is the way love dies -

not all in one go, but little by little
not with a bang, but a whimper at a time…

Poem inspired by the last stanza of T.S. Eliot’s poem ‘Hollow Men’:
This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
Not with a bang but a whimper.

I am a very creative person and it’s my way of dealing with the world, inside and out. I am only happy when I am making things or painting or writing. There are just not enough hours in the day…. I am into poetry and photo manipulation at the moment and also dabbling in photography. :-)

    Beautifully written.
This is tragic, it should never die this way.
Never say never if it’s love

  • It just happens that way.

    Thanks for the comment. :-)

heart wrenching and deep pain felt here. When love is snatched from us or denied it cuts a most violent gash in our soul’s heart that it unleashes all the horrors of that act…..it becomes a slow torture that seems endless. A powerful and intense write that captures the anguished pain and violation of one’s love.

  • Thank you for your lovely comment. Means so much. :-)

This is the way the heart weeps
when the love is dried and forgotten….. Sybille this is sad, poignant and also letting light in as well I believe. A dose of reality can hurt but it is a truth that cannot be covered in lies…xxx

  • Thanks KarenSue! :-) Don’t get me started on truth and reality!!! LOL One of my favourite topics EVER. Funnily enough I haven’t written a poem about that… Hmmm…. Watch this space. :-) x
