Mere Words

Never trust
Mere words
Spoken with intent
Never followed by the deed.

Never trust
Mere words
Meaningless syllables lined up,
Sound without a sense.

Never trust
Mere words
Noises in the fog
Uttered to make you loose your way.

Never trust
Mere words
Cawed in the dark
Flickering but no light.

Never trust
Mere words
Head without the heart
Logic without meaning.

Never trust
Never trust
Never trust
Mere words.

Poem about how words sometimes mean nothing if they are not followed through by the action they announce.

I am a very creative person and it’s my way of dealing with the world, inside and out. I am only happy when I am making things or painting or writing. There are just not enough hours in the day…. I am into poetry and photo manipulation at the moment and also dabbling in photography. :-)

this one spoke to me – coz i’ve been there and learnt the hard way not to trust mere words and that they’re often “utterred to make you lose your way”..beautifully stark to convey the meaning of these lines/the betrayal of words….

here’re some words that mean something indeed!…:):)..nicely done.

  • Thank you so much for your kind words. :-) You followed your words with a deed by posting a comment. :-)

I should have read such a poem several years ago – it would have saved me a great deal of pain! Brilliant piece with fabulous flow and rhythm. A great deal of wisdom in a lovely write!

  • Thank you Lianne… would have saved me a lot of pain, too. Hard lesson to learn.

I trust myself, therefore I trust the Universe. (Win some, learn some)
    A thought-provoking piece MM.
    :)

  • Thank you. :-) Sometimes trusting yourself is a learning process, until you get there… best to be careful. :-)

I really admire what you have achieved in this poem. Trusting the words of others is always at a cost. I think Lisa Jewell has written of this beautifully in Power and I made a sister piece to that thought called Tristesse or sadness. Excellent synchronicity is one of my favourite things in the red bubble xoxo

  • Thank you for the lovely comment. :-) I remember Lisa’s poem, but hadn’t seen yours, just visited. :-)
