Sorry if this is a bit disturbing, but I felt it was an important topic and had to be shown in all its ‘goriness’ (is that a word?) Especially nowadays there are so many people self-harming, many of them young women, and it often is the only way to express those feelings that cannot find another way to be expressed.

PS. I didn’t actually spill any blood for this image – it was a scratch from my cat’s claws (he’s VERY clumsy) and a texture I’d created.

Check out this link for more information and how to get help with self-harming._

I am a very creative person and it’s my way of dealing with the world, inside and out. I am only happy when I am making things or painting or writing. There are just not enough hours in the day…. I am into poetry and photo manipulation at the moment and also dabbling in photography. :-)

I really like this. It is a sensitive topic, so some people may not understand why I like this so much. But it is unfortunately so common nowadays and like you have mentioned, it is commonly used as a way to express feelings rather than to cause a true pain.
It is upsetting and for some people it is a gateway to more serious things (like suicide)

On the basis on this photograph, I really like it. Great focus, textures, composition and the slight over exposure of the skin works well to contrast against the very dark background. I like this a lot. :) A favourite for me!

  • Thank you so much Andrew. Your thoughtful comment is greatly appreciated. :-) I hope it gets through to more people that this is a real problem and is something that needs to be taken seriously.

Wow Syb, your dark side is showing…
So very true though not just nowadays, it’s been happening for . . . well, forever. You said it!! Self inflicted pain is sometimes the only way to FEEL. So sad but true…
    Well crafted.

  • Thank you so much Rhonda. :-) My dark side is always showing, LOL, just sometimes it’s not quite so visible. ;-) xo

Incredible image and timely subject matter. I am too close to too many who either do this, or know someone who does. Important work dear Sybille. xoxoxoxoxooxxoxoox

  • Thank you so much dear Shar. It’s one of those things that are often overlooked and ignored and I think it needed to be shown and brought into people’s conscious. xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxox ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

Oh dear, you’re not cutting, Sybille? The art is disturbing, and does need to be seen and discussed. So well done there!
    But I’m worried.

  • LOL No Jan, I am fine. In fact I never have. It’s just a subject I’ve read about recently and I felt it needed to be tackled.

And yes, I did read your response about the cat scratch. And still…

  • Definitely only a cat scratch. Nobody was harmed intentionally (I am sure the cat didn’t mean it, he’s just the clumsiest cat I’ve ever known) in the making of this picture. :-) xo
