Sub Title: The Betrayal
I think I might need to explain the sub title. This image – although very pretty and seductive is actually about the way we ‘deal’ with beauty. It’s more often than not something we use and abuse rather than just admire. The flowers (my own pictures of cherryblossom) symbolise the lure whereas the hummingbird symbolises, the ‘vampires’ that feed on the beauty. Of course beauty isn’t always seen this way, but open a magazine or watch the ads on TV and you know exactly what I mean…. In part it was inspired by Madame Butterfly, a tragic opera by Puccini about a geisha abandoned by her American lover, hence the slightly ‘oriental’ feel.

I am a very creative person and it’s my way of dealing with the world, inside and out. I am only happy when I am making things or painting or writing. There are just not enough hours in the day…. I am into poetry and photo manipulation at the moment and also dabbling in photography. :-)

No matter what interpretation one reads into this it is a beautiful image…..my initial impression was how great beauty in one is not accepted by oneself and in self doubt we turn our backs and not share it to those who see it. Beautiful in all its splendour, Sybille. xoxo
Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment. Your explanation works really well too. LOL xoxo

your creativity astounds me and this is an extremely beautiful image. I love looking larger and studying the detail. at first I had trouble identifying a hummingbird as a vampire, for to me they are such good, enchanting and most positive creatures. but then in knowing how they operate so keenly as nature intended, I understood your point, but, I must say, it is difficult still. I wonder how you feel about it? it makes sense, but I could think of other darker creatures. I am supposing you meant it as a caution to be wary of that something may appear to be what it is not?

Hi Sweetie, the point I was trying to make is that even the vampires use beauty as a lure… If I’d used a bat, it would have just confirmed stereotypes, but not made the point I was trying to make about the “business of beauty”, where everyone is beautiful. The Greeks had this idea that beauty equals goodness, but that’s not really true now (if it ever was), the predators of today are very good at hiding their claws and teeth. So I think, yes, the point I was trying to make was that you need to be wary about things which aren’t always what they appear. :-) xoxoxoxox ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

Outstanding Sybille!!!!!!!!!
Thank you so much Pat. I spent forever ‘cutting out’ the cherryblossom and blending them in… Glad it to hear it was worth it. :-) xo

beautiful and delightful…makes me swoon which is what true beauty does to me xxx
Thank you so much Lisa. This is exactly what true beauty should do. It shouldn’t be the idea of how much money we can make of it or how we can ‘blemish’ this beauty that first springs to mind… xoxoxox
