This was an experiment inspired by a tutorial I saw a while ago (see here). However, rather than following the tutorial I used masks for all of it and made it my own. (I can never follow a recipe without making changes either…) ;-)

I wanted to create an image of emotional de-construction, the kind of thing that happens if you keep your emotions locked up for too long and when then the pressure gets too much and they suddenly errupt and tear the very fabric of the person apart.

Dealing with emotions is difficult at the best of times, but not dealing with them and pretending ’it’s not happening’ creates it’s own problems. Without getting into gender stereotypes, it’s something that in my experience men are more likely to suffer from. Like everything this is partly genetic and partly nurture.

It is something that’s terrible to live through and terrible to watch, hence the intense feel I tried to create.

I am a very creative person and it’s my way of dealing with the world, inside and out. I am only happy when I am making things or painting or writing. There are just not enough hours in the day…. I am into poetry and photo manipulation at the moment and also dabbling in photography. :-)

Your words of explanation add so much to the significance of this piece, Sybille – it’s a powerful image that could stand on its own merits but coupled with such remarkable insight, it becomes even more compelling. Just such amazing work, my friend. xoxox

  • Thank you so much Lianne. :-) I am so glad it works – on it’s own and with the explanation. xoxo

This is fabulous. . . the concept is exceptional in it’s execution . . .
    well done!

  • Many many thanks Rhonda. I took a few days to get it right and looking at it again and stripping it back – it was in colour at the beginning – quite intense… xo

now this is what I call class work! I think you did a cool jop. l iove the way the have a web and razorwire, I bit of soft and gentle :) poor guy doh! hes got a bad skin condition.

  • LOL thanks Declan. Actually, both the spiderweb and the barbed wire signify the inevitability of his condition – by not being able to deal/cope with his emotions they hold him back and hold him in until he explodes. :-)
