NOTE: POEM BY Autumnwind – FRINGE

I am changing

there is a girl
sitting in the corner
of a dark empty room
arms hugging her knees
her mind is darting from
one thought to another
her head bent over
she is so alone
fear has taken over
becoming her reality
she is waiting there

for me

the drowning is slow
it’s the knowing
that disables at first
not quite into quicksand
more thin and sticky
old
like a moldy molasses

she jerks her head up
hair disheveled
eyes a watery red
dark circles above and below
oh, she can barely stand
there is a mirror
and a window

I wonder that choice

she hears a voice
turns towards it
to her horror
the mirror beckons
in fact it demands
confronts
reflection to reflection
for that is all
one and the other are

I am afraid

accusations spew
from a monstrous
hollow cheeked nothing
horrible truths
she can not possibly endure
cracks appear
the mirror shrieks
and oozes blood
the flood has begun

it is time

hands over her ears
panic overwhelms
screaming stepping backwards
in the room with no door
for that door
disappeared

with me

if dark has shadow
it cannot be seen
though the girl
felt the presence
and what it would mean
tears fell like rain
when they joined
in pain
holding hands in the heart
they made their way

to the window

a thousand crows
from the mirror behind
flew forth
with a vengeance
but not quite in time
for
from the trail of the leap
arose shimmering pearls
like pink angels swirling
encircling the girl

goodbye

to shadow
the black pit of fear
goodbye to wrong choices
leaving conscience now clear
the end a beginning
she always knew
there are other worlds
than this
so onwards

she flew…

When I first read the poem I was bowled over and my head was full of images. I told Shar how much I liked it and that I would love to illustrate it for her. She was pleased about that and encouraged me to do so. This is the result. :-)
