Image to accompany my poem Slide

I am but a mirror of
your wants
your musts
your needs
your fears.

I am but a projection of
your history
your view
your understanding
your perception.

I am but a phantom of
your pain
your hurt
your torture
your anxiety.

I slide behind a curtain
 hidden amongst
the discarded furniture of your mind
 concealed behind
the ghosts of your past
 obscured by
the spectres of your nightmares.

I am a piece of fiction, none of it is true.
I am an actress in your private film.
I am an obsession, a drug.

I am prophecy made flesh.

The title ‘Slide’ came to me and I didn’t quite know why at first. It’s such an odd title for a poem, but it wouldn’t go away. I then realised that it was inspired by a character in the Terry Goodkind series of books ‘Sword of Truth’. The Slide is a kind of soul eater and it can devour the soul of someone and use it to his/her own advantage.

The photo collage didn’t turn out at all like I had planned it. Not that I am unhappy with how it turned out. LOL It’s one of those images that grew and changed under my stylus as I put it together.

I am still quite new to photo manipulation and sometimes find it hard to find the right tools to do what I want, on the other hand I love the discoveries I make on the way.

I have used the following stock:
Model, vintage image from M3ment0M0ri
Curtains, stock image from LunaNYXstock
Negative image (to make the film at the bottom) from ~ArtOfDecay-Stock
Fire, stock images from shin-rhys

The photos/images used in the ‘film roll’ at the bottom are all my own, so are several of the background/textures.

I have also used the following textures:

Photo Manipulator’s Group 17th Jan 2010
Inspiration: Fantasy Art 21st Jan 2010
Inspired Art! Group on 21st Jan 2010
Touched by Fire on 31st Jan 2010

I am a very creative person and it’s my way of dealing with the world, inside and out. I am only happy when I am making things or painting or writing. There are just not enough hours in the day…. I am into poetry and photo manipulation at the moment and also dabbling in photography. :-)

Just read the poem and its brill’.This piece is sexy and strong. Are those rose petals or is it blood(red)?Hmm..very lovely. (o:

  • Actually it’s fire. The image on my blog is better and shows more detail – RB seems to saturate the image which is particularly obvious with dark images.

Thank you so much for stopping by and commenting. Much appreciated. :-)

That is fabulous wok!! So dark and so mysterious – and she really does look like a soul eater. I love it.

  • Thanks Anna. :-) It’s Mabel Green. She was an Edwardian actress. I just loved the image and the fact is that she’s dressed up as Undine – one of my favourite stories

This is magnificent!!! This image has such a mystical otherworldly feel to it, it’s a little hard for me to describe.
Then I read your reference to the ‘Sword of Truth" series & “the veil” suddenly seems like the right way to describe what I’m looking at….. do you know what I mean?
This is superb…. an instant fave. I wish I could fave it 100 times :))

  • Thank you Rosemary! What a lovely comment. Especially, as this is only the second image I’ve done with stock images and lots of experimenting. Working on the third as we speak… :-)
