Lest you should roam.

Have climbed this tree many many times bless it (only as an adult!). The metal fence has been there for years not doing anything purposeful at all. The wooden one is a new addition. Both could only serve to injure children old and young who tumble from the tree. This once beautiful unspoilt woodland (Thorncombe Woods where Thomas Hardy’s cottage is) near Dorchester in Dorset is now so over managed it has lost much of its spirit. Don’t get me started!

    Fantastic tree. I thought those woods looked rather over managed when I was last there too!

    Isn’t it a shame Colin. I wrote to the person in charge there to complain when it all started and they chopped down a rare tree. The person apologised ‘a mistake’. Invited me over to see what they were doing. I declined. Used to go there to ‘feed my soul’ now and then – rarely go anymore.
