Sizing Pictures

Maybe someone can answer my question on sizing pictures, this digital world is fairly new to me so maybe someone has got the answer. When I crop a photo the size is decreased, even though the quality and pixils are still strong, is there anyway I can keep a large size photo after cropping? Any suggestions would be appreciated. I take my pics with Nikon D40x and there are formatted for JPEG Fine. 3872×2592 originas, but when I crop it may give me a small pring. Help!! Pat

I use the exact SLR. Do you have photoshop??? If you do, go into EDIT..Image Size and then u can resize your images that way.

Patrica. Correction on my end. Its not edit u go into. Go into Image, Then Image size. there will be a few options for u to choose. Make sure that ( scale styles is checked ) Constrain Proportions is checked and Resample image is checked.. all u gotta do is change width at the top and your fine from there…good luck! sorry about the Confusion

Pat u have to be very careful with that….because simply because if u stretch it to far u will have feathered(meaning destorted pixel look) if u wanna resize do it in NIKON CAPTURE…when resize in PS it doesnt tell u when DPI is reduced…with resizing…but in NIKON CAPTURE it reduces pixels with resizing…only allows so much resizing to stay within 300 dpi..in PS wont tell u that…that is only reason i use NIKON CPTURE…

if u have 3200×2400 u ca increase inches or pixels in NIKON CAPTURE…
many stock sites will not allow u you to interpolate…but here is printing site so it doesnt matter…but be very careful hoe much is to much…as if someone buy your print they might not be happy with how much u have enlarged

In PS u go to image, size and increase inches size..but still will show 300 dpi but it is not true dpi if u go over and still will show u 300 dpi…and then photo wil become feathered(pixel distortion)....did i confuse u now?

Patricia the reason i explained my way…is because i always aim for poster size…and if it is incorrectly resized…u will get distortion in pixels and printers hate it…
For photos in sizes 8×10 and 10×12 is okay to resize any wild way…but if u have in mind large posters that is method works for me…glad i didnt create confusion here ….:)
