Before, long before the arrival of the whites, and wars between Spanish and Mapuche, God lived on top of the world with his wife and children, reigning over heaven and earth. God had many names: Chau, the Father, and Antu, the Sun, or Nguenechén, Creator of the World, Chau or Antu, and its female version (moon) is Kusche or Kuyen. God had done a great job, had created heaven with all its clouds, and every one of its stars, and the land of giant mountains. He had made the rivers that run through the middle of the woods. One day God opened his huge fingers to place here and there, animals and men, the Mapuche. God lives in heaven now, watching their creations during the day, and illuminating his vast kingdom. At night, the queen, his wife, takes his place and was going to watch the dream of all creatures scattered throughout the world.
Note that, there are no written accounts of the ancient legends and myths before the Spanish arrival because their religious beliefs were transmitted orally ..
