◾This artwork is the 2° of a series entitled “Violeta in the heart” about Violeta Parra and her songs. This work is about the song “Back at seventeen”.

For this work I relied mainly on the chorus:

  • It is entangled, entangling, like ivy on the wall
and is sprouting, sprouting like moss in stone
as the moss in stone, oh yeah, yeah, yeah

◾Violeta del Carmen Parra Sandoval (4 October 1917 – 5 February 1967) was a Chilean composer, songwriter, folklorist, ethnomusicologist and visual artist (paintings, ceramics, and tapestries). She set the basis for “Chilean’ New Song”, the Nueva canción chilena, a renewal and a reinvention of Chilean folk music which would absorb and extend its influence far beyond Chile.
She was involved in the progressive movement and the Communist Party of
Chile.
Her most renowned song, Gracias a la Vida (Thanks to Life), was popularized throughout Latin America by Mercedes Sosa and later in the US by Joan Baez.
◾However, Violeta attracted much more attention and renown abroad than at
home. Between 1961 and 1965 she returned to Europe, where she performed ceaselessly at everywhere from small bars to the halls of the United Nations.
◾In 1964, Violeta became the first Latin American to show her work as a stand-alone exhibit in Parisian museum The Louvre

Back at seventeen

Back at seventeen after living a century
is like deciphering signs, without being competent, wise,
suddenly back to being as fragile as a second,
to feel deep as a child before God,
that’s how I feel at this moment fruitful

It is entangled, entangling, like ivy on the wall
and is sprouting, sprouting like moss in stone
as the moss in stone, oh yeah, yeah, yeah

My step backwards when yours progresses,
the arc of alliances has penetrated my nest,
with all its color has walked through my veins,
and lasts until the chain that binds us to the destination,
is a blessed day that lights my soul serene

It is entangled, entangling, like ivy on the wall
and is sprouting, sprouting like moss in stone
as the moss in stone, oh yeah, yeah, yeah

What can the feeling, was not been able the knowing,
nor lighter proceed, nor wider thinking,
changes all the time, filled condescending
us away sweetly of rancor and violence
only love with his science makes us so innocent

It is entangled, entangling, like ivy on the wall
and is sprouting, sprouting like moss in stone
as the moss in stone, oh yeah, yeah, yeah

Love is whirlwind of original purity
until the fierce animal whispers his sweet trill
retains the pilgrims, frees prisoners
love with their dedications, the old becomes child
and bad, just affection, makes him pure and sincere

It is entangled, entangling, like ivy on the wall
and is sprouting, sprouting like moss in stone
as the moss in stone, oh yeah, yeah, yeah

Wide, the window opened, as by magic,
entered love, with his cloak like a warm morning
and the sound of his beautiful diana, brought forth the jasmine,
flying, as seraphim to heaven, put earrings,
and my years, at seventeen, turned the cherubim

It is entangled, entangling, like ivy on the wall
and is sprouting, sprouting like moss in stone
as the moss in stone, oh yeah, yeah, yeah
