Wow that’s amazing, wasn’t aware we got surf waves that big in Scotland. When is the best time of year to get conditions like this? Just so I know when to visit Thurso when it’s like this again!

The “Thurso Beast” is a worldclass wave, and one of the best in the UK. The surf season starts around October to April or so, if you are lucky you get a 18ft swell…
International surf competitions are held here too :-)

Great Thurso shot MaCross, beautiful colour and face detail.Great spray. Did a “google” on The Beast and didnt find much but did find that the Cold Water Classic went there after they left here.

Beautiful! When is it surf time in Scotland? Is the water ever warm? I live close to the Atlantic Ocean at a beach they call the edge of America. We don’t get to see waves like that though, unless there’s a hurricane, my kids would love it. :) SZ

During summer its mostly flat as a pancake here, surf time is during winter. The only drawback is that the water is rather chilly, you will need a big suit :-)

Thanks for the info, will look into surf conditions from October onwards then, have been wanting to do surf shots for quite a while. And also because I love big waves. Even a recent trip to Newquay was a washout as the beach was closed due to high winds!
