Caterpillar (approx 15mmn – 5/8” in length) on daisy bush in my garden, Cape Town, South Africa.
A moth caterpillar because of the amount of hairs – no butterfly caterpillar looks like that. It is a young caterpillar and belongs to the family Arctiidae, which are called tiger moths. Their caterpillars are very hairy and sometimes called woolly bears in their final stages, it’s of the Tri-coloured Tiger Moth species. I thank Esther, owner of Butterfly World in Cape Town, for the positive ID.
