I have basically sketched all my life, four years ago I descided it was time to get over my fobia of paint (sketching was easy, all I had to do was sharpen my pencil and go) painting was a whole nother thing, you had to take time out and mix your colours and when you ran out you had to make more AHHHHH……. But since then I have gained this weird thing called patience (mind you if you asked my kids they would say otherwise) and a willingness to test myself and give it a try. Amazing what getting older can do.
Now, time is a big factor in my life……I don’t have enough (yes I know I’m not the only one) I have four kids aged 10, 8 and 5 year old twins, I also care for my husband who was in a major traffic accident 3.5 years ago and I work part time too.
When my husband had his accident I found painting really helped with my stress levels during his many operations and in coping with the kids during the 7 months he was in hospital.
I mainly do my painting and sketching when the kids have gone to bed. When I started painting I had put the pencils away for a while, but during a rather stressful June school holidays this year I dragged them out and started again. I never realised how much I had missed it. Since then I have managed to finish 3 and I am working on a 4th (which is pretty good going for me)
I have been entering in our local Art comps and I am doing OK, it has given me enough of an incentive to try and promote my work more and see if I can start making a go of it.
I am looking forward to hearing your opinions.
