On that day the earth shook the ground,
One year later it is spring all around.
The aftermath that was hard to erase,
Not a sign today; is this really the same place?
Life itself can feel like such a crime,
To be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
If I stood here back then I wouldn’t be today;
And to be safe each day I can only pray.
Today marks the first anniversary of the devastating earthquake in Japan, and the weather is beautiful; a beauty somewhat ironic considering the events exactly one year ago. I remember looking at various before and after shots when the disaster occurred, as well as before and after shots after recovery was on its way – it’s amazing how much a place can change.
The earthquake in Japan is not the only example of a disaster of such a great impact. For example, Mt. Vesuvius , as pictured above, erupted and destroyed the city of Pompeii and it’s people; and now it is a lively tourist attraction.
