If my thoughts were made of matter,
And I had many compressed inside my head,
The pressure would make my skull shatter,
And leave me bleeding over my bed.

Self-portrait; a literal representation of the story of my life…
This year for me has been one of much reflection and transition – always constantly having something on my mind – sometimes too much; and it doesn’t really help when other people stuff my head with more things to think about. Thankfully though I have been able to buy myself some free time this year; step back from certain stresses to catch up on other things I had wanted to do – though my ‘to do’ list is constantly growing!
This idea was inspired by a headache I had about a week ago – which I was still feeling as I was in my bed; but as soon as I started writing the musing above on my iPhone I felt better.
Perhaps thoughts are made of matter because when we have too many we get headaches. Many people use the term ‘headache’ simply when they are feeling frustrated – but it isn’t really a headache unless there is physical pain – it is called a head ‘ache’ for a reason. As painful as it can be to have too much on the mind – be it physically or emotionally – I have also realized how much it helps to release those thoughts out; let them bleed – though we have to be wise about how we do it otherwise we may be giving headaches to other people! It can be just as contagious as a cold.
Sometimes it is matter of finding that right person who is genuinely willing to listen – and who will make you feel better instead of increasing the headache! And of course one who is happy to listen rather than feeling stressed from it – and who I am happy to talk to. I didn’t really find a person like that until last year – without whom I may not have dared to make the decisions I did later in the year and this one that followed. But even to write down stuff or to take moments to reflect it helps (as long as we’re given our space and our peace).
And speaking of peace, I de-saturated the center of the flower to look like a poppy in honour of tomorrow; Nov 11, 2012 – Veteran’s Day/Remembrance Day
