Throughout the year you tell many stories
As you shed, conceive and recolour your leaves;
Or the mind of the artist as they bring flavour
To the things they scribble on a piece of paper.
Sometimes you yourself will be the slate
To commemorate the first kiss on a date;
And finally through the camera lens
You bring life to your own fibres again.
Everything in life has a story
Lets make ours a fine memory

My tribute to trees and the stories they produce; whether through themselves or the things we write, draw, or print on the papers made of them – or sometimes on they themselves; that was where my inspiration came from.
I took the photo today (Oct, 6, 2012) with a CASIO EX-FC100, then enhanced it in Photoshop – see original photo here
It has been cloudy most of the day and I sat through the cold waiting for the sun to come out as I tried to experiment with the set-up. The leaves on the branches above tell a story as they record their shadows within the pages of the book. Soon the shady green trees of summer will be a shadow of the past…

I wrote the verse earlier, on Oct 3 2012, and was originally going to pair it with my graffiti tree photo, but I wasn’t that fond of it, so I waited until I could get a more suitable photo to accompany my poem.

What a creative concept Mui-Ling… I was just thinking today about my faithful journal and how I could photograph it (just an ugly notebook!) You went in a totally different direction than i will probably eventually go, but yours is so inspiring!!!
Thank you Nicole. I was kind of going through something similar – by the time I thought about using a notebook to include in my tree pic, I started to wonder if I should maybe write or draw something in it. Yesterday as I was doing some experimenting, I liked the way the leaves cast their shadows on the pages so I knew then I didn’t need to write or draw anything. The ground surrounding the tree however was pretty bare; there wasn’t even much grass. So I collected some leaves to make the ground nicer, but by the time I finished doing that the sun was already gone and I didn’t think it was going to be back again that day, so I came back to the same spot today to try the pic again. Yesterday’s shadow actually looked nicer, but I can’t control nature and it’s getting cold so I decided this would be it (especially considering this located was quite a distance away from where I live).

Yesterday was colder and had more cloudy periods than the day before so as I was out yesterday I was even more disappointed that I couldn’t get the shot I wanted the day before (See my reply to Nicole McKinney). Today however was even colder and cloudier! So it is a good thing I got this shot yesterday and will not need do it again!
