If the sun goes down I shall fly to the moon
Before the sky turns from blue to dark maroon
A pigeon takes off from the light post it was sitting on during the evening – and probably for the better. Pigeons are diurnal animals that are not very active during the night as they do not see very well in the dark (although not exactly night blind). So when it is dark out, and they are stranded somewhere, they will generally be immobile until the day breaks. I’ve had a pigeon sit at my window one evening once and it was there throughout the night. If this one had stayed on that light post though, don’t know if it would’ve kept its balance!
As it flew off the post it cried “Pipipipipi!” (exactly five times) – unless that was another nearby bird, it doesn’t sound like a pigeon sound…
