Artist's Description

For anyone that has ever watched movies or Japanese animations about ninjas, you may commonly see them throwing a small sharp weapon known as a “shuriken” (??? – meaning “hand hidden sword”). They are also commonly known as “ninja stars”. In some animations I’ve seen, a ninja may throw this with a thread tied to the hole in the center. I used a gold chain because I thought it looked cool (although commonly the weapons are not this small ;P). The star was folded from two pieces of copper tape, each measuring about 6mm (the width of the tape) x24mm.

Taken with a Canon PowerShot ELPH 300 HS.

For a better idea of scale

(this is before I put a hole in the centre. This chain is the same one I used in Puppy on a Neckleash and The Cats rule the Nights – just without the heart ;) )

Stuck the star in a piece of foam board (literally puncturing the board with the little sculpture itself – that said it is actually a bit sharp), set the camera on the timer and moved my hand while the picture was being taken; so it took some trial and error because sometimes the star accidentally moved, or the motion of the chain and my hand didn’t look right.

Inspired by all the awesome ninja shows :) As well the wind has been very strong lately while it has been hot…
