Self-portrait – this year for Halloween I am the living dead… (not that different from my everyday life ;-P). Perhaps more appropriate to say a broke traveler trying to find the cheapest way home! And no I did not shrink anyone this time! That really is a big suitcase that I can sleep comfortably in :P (though at the same time I am a small person…)

Untouched photo aside from the conversion to black and white, taken with an Olympus FE-340 on portrait mode on October 30, 2011. Set-up the camera on tripod – no flash. Turned on the timer, and rushed into the suitcase and zipped it up while in there.

Happy Halloween folks!

I bought that suitcase when I was 19, getting ready for my first internship in Edmonton, Alberta . It was winter, and I was going to be away for four months, so I needed a big luggage. It is my biggest suitcase, and when I bought it, my brother and I had a lot of fun taking photos of ourselves inside of it :P. Here is one of myself from that time:

(I bought it on boxing day; was $120 then reduced to $60.)

Hilarious! Reminds me of “Hand” in the Addams Family. Love your creativity!

  • Lol; how true! I think that hand’s name was “Thing”. Oh Addams Family; haven’t seen that in a loooooooooong time. Can’t remember, did Thing sleep in a box? I remember in one episode there was another hand called “Lady Fingers” who was kept in a box. Thanks so much Eileen!

    I love this!

I love how there are many stories here:

    1. That there is a living dead creeping out of suitcase, ready to spread the disease to a whole new area of the world…. Its haunting to think the world thinks it is save from the spread but little do they know there was a corpse left in a suitcase!

    2. I can imagine a poor soul going on holiday by himself, first time. Very excited and incredibly nervous… He’s finally got off the plane, feels a bit sick from the flight but excitement is getting the better of him – all those fears about plane crashes, tourist attacks etc are starting to subside. He picks up his luggage, jumps on the coach to his all-ready-paid-for hotel, takes a lolly from the counter and is shown to his room. Its a bit small then he imagined but there is a pool right outside so he truly doesn’t care – he’s not going to be spending much time in here after all. He slams the luggage on his bed and pulls back the zip………. to be shocked by a nasty surprise!!

    3. I love the idea that the luggage actually ate someone haha

    Love it

  • lol, hehehe… I really didn’t expect you to look at this piece; this is a bit embarrassing haha~ I do want to do some drawing too though. Well, one day hopefully… I want to get back on the more creative side in general; including creatively set-up conceptual photography and writings. Always lovely to hear from you :)

Brilliant :-) Weren’t you and your brother ever tempted to travel two-for-the-price-of-one? :-D

  • Hehehe… it’s a big suitcase, but not big enough for two people :-)

Meanwhile my brother can’t fit into (can’t close the bag). I remember taking one photo with him in it that looked rather creepy – with the way he had his arms and legs showing made, it looked like he was a disfigured corpse :P I wish I had the photo…
