Once upon an Edinburgh Summer
I looked forward to the magic of Earth Mother.

To catch a seven am flight meant waking up at four,
So I could catch the night bus as I step out the door.

Arrived in Edinburgh at half past eight;
The air smelled sweet, and the weather was great.

Much of the city was covered in green,
Though man left his mark by carving the scene.

And from the castle on a rock that was once a volcano,
A beautiful garden surrounded Gardener’s cottage below.

This is an image I had uploaded almost 3 years ago to include in my Edinburgh calendar that I always had on private before. I am sharing it to the public as of today; August 18 2012. The poem I wrote above was based on my trip – the first half of the first day anyway; I only spent a day and a half there, and saw a lot; even just on the first day I saw a lot as I mention in the description of the calendar

This shot was taken in Princes Street Gardens; the little cottage to the left is Gardener’s cottage.The Gardens were created in two phases in the 1770s and 1820s following the long draining of the Nor Loch and the creation of the New Town. In the middle of the park (not included in this particular shot) is Edinburgh castle, situated on a big rock that was once a volcano.

Taken with an Olympus FE-340 on April 19 2009. Edinburgh, Scotland.

    On a(n economy-)coach tour I was in Edinburgh for an hour or more. Better than never having been there. But could not manage a lovely memory like this.

  • I know what you mean. During the time I was studying in Rome we had a two week field trip through Northern Italy. A lot of the cities we visited, we only stopped there and then continued on the road. Didn’t have much time to explore although it was still lovely.
