Peek-a-Boo! (Self Portrait in the Eye) by

I currently have bulks of postcards on hand of this image among various others that I can sell cheaper to customers within the Greater Toronto Area. Learn more here

Let’s go outside to play
And have some fun today!

Image straight from the camera; and I may have caught the culprit moments before!

Taken on January 11, 2009 with an Olympus FE-340. London, UK.

It was the first day of the year that the weather in London was beautiful so I spent the day outdoor walking through the parks, and the squirrels are very friendly. This particular shot was in Green Park. While I was trying to set-up my camera to take a photo, this little guy suddenly climbed up my leg! (I missed the opportunity to take its picture while it was there) I looked down at it, and it looked to the side as though saying “I didn’t do anything…” (see Playing Innocent)

Then it ran behind me and tried to climb up my knapsack; then ran in front me, spiraled up the pole and poked its head to the side going “Peek-a-boo!”

After it climbed down I brought my hand out. It grabbed my finger for a little while, but took off before I could get a picture then :-( … But at least I captured the funny Peek-a-boo moment! Hehe… my first handshake with a squirrel…

The light and dark areas in the eye may look like the iris and the sclera of the eye, but that is actually caused by reflections; The dark bit at the bottom left corner of the eye is a reflection of myself with the camera

While the reflections in the eye, which gave this squirrel a human-like expression, may have been by accident, this squirrel’s character did seem human-like =)

This was indeed the most amusing interaction I ever had with Mother Nature :o)

And just for fun, here is another photo of my little friend :)

I think this one has a clearer reflection of myself in the eye despite not being as close-up

I didn’t use flash, but the sun behind me makes it look like the camera is using flash.

I’m debating on whether to post this squirrel photo too; I’m not typically an animal photographer, and there are already so many out there with great animal pics in their works.

Awwhhh … he has such a sweet little face. We don’t often see squirrels where I live, but I saw a few in Wales.

  • Really? They are so common in the parks here in London. It seems they are so used to the human presence that they’ll just go up to you (and see if you have any food :P). I saw one go into a man’s shopping bag! Glad you enjoy this Dave :)

Don’t forget that it is much warmer in London than it is here in Northumberland. Also, there aren’t many trees near where I live. In the countryside and in cities with grassy areas .. that’s where they live mainly.
