This image is currently the cover for my origami calendar Tiny Treasure – Miniature Origami

Each square in the grid paper is 5×5mm; and to be exact, there were 2028 full squares in the paper

When I was in grade 5 our teacher read “Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes” to our class. Sadako Sasaki was infected with leukemia. One day her friend Chizuko Hamamoto visited her at the hospital, and folded her a paper crane out of a piece of gold paper. Chizuko told Sadako about the ancient Japanese legend that folding a thousand would grant a person’s wish, offering the golden crane she just made as her first of the thousand. Since then Sadako spent her days folding origami cranes and making wishes upon them; wishing for her health and for a more peaceful world (the quote above is my writing inspired by the story of the thousand paper cranes).

This concept was originally created in 2008, and photographed without a tripod. But now I have a tripod and decided to re-shoot this again and re-uploaded it on September 6, 2009. Taken with an Olympus FE-340 on super macro mode.

In the novel “Sadako and The Thousand Paper Cranes” written by Eleanor Coerr, after Sadako managed to finish half of the one thousand cranes, she believed a miracle would come, and it came true. Most of her pains were gone and her appetite came back. I too once had an experience of paper cranes bringing good luck. A fellow RB member posted a journal asking for prayers for a sick boy. Many showed their support, and I posted this photo wishing upon each crane that the boy would recover, and miraculously, it did come true much earlier than expected :)
